Our distant cousins have been filling our ears with stories of Zuckerberg Island and how Mr. Zuckerberg buried his treasure on the Island he loved so dearly. Of course it's the same scallywags that told us the many tales of Mary Hyde and her crew.......you'll remember the The Mary Hyde Chronicles? (GC7888W)
The Adventure has five Lab Caches that will take you on a tour of the Island where you can discover a heritage of human and natural history unique within the Columbia River Valley. The Island remains not only a place of beauty, but also a legacy to its historical past.
In order to play the Lab Adventure and earn five smilies you will need to download the Geocaching Adventure Lab onto your phone.
Your visit will take you back several thousands of years when the Lakes Salish Indian people first fished and built their winter pit houses here; over 200 years ago, in 1811 when David Thompson canoed down the Columbia River past this island; and the 1930s when Alexander Zuckerberg built his unique Russian Orthodox Chapel House.
The Island is a living museum - a line of longitude of magic with a feeling of enchantment as you explore it.
It is about 200 meters by 500 meters and lies on bank of the Columbia River, directly opposite the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers. There are over 8 hectares of woods and a variety of paths to explore. There are several picnic tables and benches so bring a lunch if you like and relax while you take a step back in time.
When you enter the find code at one of the Lab Caches it wil reveal the coordinates for Zuckerberg's buried treasure.....ok it's probably not buried or it couldn't be a geocache and it's probably not gold and jewels but more likely a wee bit of swag.
The stories have it that Alexander hid his treasure not too far from the Chapel House that he built.....he was a smart man though.....did he bury it on the Island or somewhere nearby?
