Geocache Description:

This cache is a standard small cliplock container - I wanted to make sure there was a container in this bit of Winchester big enough to take swaps and trackables!

Whiteshute Ridge is a beautiful strip of meadow rising above Winchester city, with view across to the cathedral. In late spring / early summer it is a riot of meadow flowers (including early purple orchids), and is managed by Hampshire and Wight Wildlife Trust for Winchester City Council. Currently, they are grazing British White Cattle on the land, to help restore the natural biodiversity of this beautiful pocket of chalk downland; In autumn, there is some great foraging to be had around the margins - sloes, blackberries, walnuts and crab apples.

I've placed this cache as a thank you to 3 running mates who helped me get back into running this year: heading back down the ridge, bouncing down springy turf, is a real treat at the end of a long run!

Do keep to public footpaths and keep dogs under control as you explore the area, especially around the cattle, and enjoy this place as much as I do.
