This cache is in disguise close to a bench. It is hidden in the Hockley area of Poynton, close to the Hockley Centre (just down the Park Lane towards Poynton, on the right. The building is now used by Poynton Christian Fellowship and by various local groups for events, classes and meetings. The building was built in 1837 and was originally a small Westleyan Chapel. It was doubled in size in 1856, then extended again in 1866 and 1896, when classrooms were added an a school opened. In 2006 the largest extension so far was completed, extending the building back towards the brook. On the other side of the road (to the right of Hockley road as you look from the bench) stand a row of cottages and shops which were built in their original form (only 2 walls now remain) in 1853. It was built by the miners who worked in the pits of Poynton and Worth and was known as the Poynton Cooperative. Miners could save money in a shared account, and also get mortgages here. The Cooperative also leant money when miners were injured and could not work, or were on strike.
