Geocache Description:


While exploring Highland Park Cemetery, I saw and heard many cardinals. Therefore, it is a location to host a cache in my Birds of Ohio series.

The cache container can be found in a very common place to see a cardinal feed and nest. Please be respectful of the surroundings and only cache from dusk to dawn. The Northern Cardinal is Ohio's official state bird and the official state bird to many other eastern states. It is a year round resident of Ohio. During the winter, it can be seen and heard even in the harshest of winter weather. It is a frequent vistor to backyard feeders, especially those stocked with sunflower seeds. The vivid red of the male is particularly striking with a backdrop of a snowy landscape. It is surprising how difficult the same vivid red is to see in the summer foliage. The female is more tan/brown in color, but the red, especially the beak, is still very noticable.
