Geocache Description:

**NOT AT POSTED COORDINATES**

Welcome to the British driving experience!

Here you can drive on the left like a true Brit without any one way street nonsense, thanks to the diverging diamond interchange. This is a Mystery / letterbox hybrid cache and the hidden geocache is not at this location. It’s not even at the coordinates this puzzle leads you to!?!?

Fill the gaps using these UK / driving themed clues, chuck these decimal degree coordinates into your GPS device within satellite imagery, or into google maps, and you’ll see a clue.

5A.AAABB1   0.CCDDDD

From posted coordinates, take compass bearing 1EE° from the diverging interchange and, within walking distance, the clue will make sense.

The clues

A) The British Empire has had a whopping 62 countries claim independence and leave the union (were they playing ‘go-fish’ with countries?). The first, however, was the United States in the year - AAAA

B) Cars wouldn’t be what they are today without the inexpensive steel that fuelled the industrial revolution. Henry Bessemer developed the first process for manufacturing steel inexpensively. The Bessemer process was developed in England in the year - 18BB (only plug in the last two digits).

C) Hundreds of innovators were crucial in developing petroleum. James Young brought forth the world’s first oil refinery and a process of extracting paraffin from coal laying the foundations for the modern oil industry. James Young was born in Britain in the year - 18CC (only plug in the last two digits).

D) The first practical inflatable tire was created by John Boyd Dunlop in Northern Ireland in the year - DDDD

E) Beneath the English channel is the longest underwater tunnel in the world, and you can take your car through. Though it is 50 km long, the underwater section is EE km long. Don’t hold your breath.

Coordinate checker) The answer you have is all Decimal (DD.DDDDDD D.DDDDDD), not Decimal Minute (DD MM.MMM), like most geocache coordinates. That's perfect, enter that in those 8 and 7 digit strings with the periods in the right spot straight into the checker. Contact me if this gives you a hard time.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

Letterboxing

Use the provided stamp and stamp pad to stamp this design into your own letterboxing notebook. Then use your own stamp to stamp the logbook along with your geocaching name and date as a part of your logging of this letterboxing cache. If you don’t have your own stamp you can always use your fingerprint or grab a pen and sketch a unique personal logo.

Please leave the stamp and ink pad for others to enjoy.

There is a bonus game described on a laminated card inside. Happy driving and drive RESPONSIBLY!

This cache is placed with the permission of the Bannock County Sheriff's Department

Stealth is paramount as your destination is a populous area; best attempt it by nightfall. If you have any trouble, message me and I’ll help out. As always, please trade fairly - if you take something please replace it with something of equal value. The first to find gets a choice of prizes. Inside you’ll find:

  • A british umbrella,
  • A London tube map
  • A James Bond t-shirt
  • Some British Keychains
  • And some British pencils

Congratulations to LadderGuy for being the first to find

The puzzle takes you to satellite footage of a circular road element somewhere in the world. The other part gives you a bearing and distance to the center of one nearby.
