Geocache Description:

I adopted this cache in September 2020. The town centre has changed quite a lot since the cache was created in 2019. In 2024 a rewrite was necessary, as only 5 of the original 10 points were still in existance and the photo storing website was no longer working correctly.

I have kept as much of the cache in the orginal format as possible, and only made the changes that are vital for the cache to work. New questions are identified by an * before the question number. The letter values, calculations and coordinates remain the same, so if you have previously completed any part of this cache, your notes will still be correct.

The photos are now in one file in the cache gallery, you will need to view this to work out where the questions need to be answered. Please ignore the "clue" column in the table.

For those who enjoyed my local sets of multi-caches, Rambling round Reading (RrR) and Wandering 'wound Wokingham (WwW), I have at last added a second one to to the BbB collection - this was the first :: Bumbling 'bout Bracknell.

It was often suggested that I did a set of caches in Bracknell, but those who know the town will understand that at a first visit it seems rather "modern" which preclude many of the themes I've used before. I used to work there - I know. Moreover, it has now been transformed by a major town centre refurbishment, which adds to the lack of nice nooks and crannies where you can hide a cache. However, this actually helped me devise a theme for my second BbB cache.

What is the cache?

This cache requires you to visit a number of buildings in the central area of Bracknell. Having solved a clue from each location you'll be able to determine/calculate the location of the final cache.

Where are the clues?

The clues are all in the central part of the town - inside the ring road (although the cache is a little further afield). The published coordinates of the cache relate to one of the caches - as good a place to start as any if you like. The route between clues depends on exactly which paths you take but isn't critical and there's no significance in the order I've chosen. As with the previous BbB, the intermediary points need NOT be tackled in the order given below, because they do not depend upon the one before.  This time I'm not giving coordinates, but a pictorial clue to the building involved.

How far is it?

The first stage - solving the clues - is probably less than a mile - perhaps 1/2 hour's walking. Walking to the cache itself will take a little while, because it's not in the town centre (but easy to get to).

What's the going like?

The terrain is of course urban, so it's plain easy walking - and Bracknell centre doesn't have any hills. But a point to remember - buildings tend to spoil reception sometimes - and of course young children need supervising. However, I must emphasise that kids might like tackling these clues and it can be walked without crossing any roads at all.

Can I have a hint?

I haven't bothered with the normal "Additional Hints" section this time - there's just a hint to the final cache. But the difficulty rating is 'pretty easy' - you should find all this a doddle.

So off we go. In each case I want you to choose from the options mentioned. To make it even easier I give in each case several answers - one is right!

Answer

1

The colour of the pole  (Blue/White = 1, Red/White = 2, Black/White = 3)

A =
*2

What symbol is part of the logo for this building / company (Star = 1, Heart = 2, Plus = 3)

B =
*3

What does this brand / shop love ? (Sales = 1, Recycling = 3,  Customer Satisfaction = 7)

C =
4   How many times does the name appear outside the building (4, 6, 8, 12) D =
5   The colour of the tiles on the floor at the entrance (Red/White = 1, Black/White = 2, Green/White = 3) E =
6   The building is shared with (WHS = 1, Argos = 2, Sainsbury's = 3) F =
*7   What are there two of, directly outside the entrance to this store? (Tables = 1, Benches = 2, chairs =3) G =
*8   How many large columns support the front section of this store? (6 columns = 1, 4 columns = 2, 2 columns = 3) H =
*9   Opposite the entrance to this store, there are two large leaf sculptures, how many insect are shown on each leaf? (3 insects = 3, 6 insects = 5, 8 insects = 7) I =
10   Which city is associated with this ? (Stockholm = 1, Oslo = 2, Copenhagen = 3, Helsinki = 4) J =

Now to determine the final location, you need to do these calculations:

a = B + F
b = A * G
c = I
d = H + J
e = D - (A + C + I)

f = A * E
g = E + H
h = C * J
i = C - J
j = B + G

and the 'cache' is at N51 ab.cde W000 fg.hij

UPDATE November 2025.

THE ORIGINAL HOST IS NO LONGER THERE!

To keep the cache as true to the original - I have left all of the clues and the calculations the same as original.

Please ADD 7 to the North coordinate - to get the new cache final location. Check out the NEW hint please.

The final cache is a magnetic container.
