The history of the shale oil industry dominates the local heritage.
This cache takes you to the location of a sculpture by Michael Johnson called 'Above and Below - Uphall and Broxburn' which was erected in 2013 to commemorate the shale oil industry in the area.
The base of the sculpture is made of shale material and within it lies a collection of bronze castings of tools and objects related to the shale oil industry and associated trades. The Bings (spoil heaps from the mining of the shale oil) are becoming naturalised by wildlife and growth of plants and trees. Rosebay Willowherb, Wild garlic and Hawthorn are represented on the sculpture as symbols of regeneration and future growth of the area.
Take a few minutes to study the sculpture while signing the log. We always find something new each time we look at it.
This is a micro container with no room for swaps or trackables. Tweezers may be required to retrieve the log. The cache is NOT on the sculpture but is nearby. Watch out for passing muggles and please tuck the cache back into its hiding place.
