In early August, 2018, VAU – Veterans and Athletes United, a local wounded warrior / veteran group that is located here in Chesterfield County approached Parks and Recreation staff about getting an area cleared along the path on Gregory’s Pond in Rockwood Park in order to get a clear view of the Veteran Memorial located across the pond. The plaque interprets the beautiful memorial for residents using the Orange trail. The finished product gives recognition and honor to those who have fought for our freedom and made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country.
The flag is a traveling exhibit, so it is not always there, but the memorial plaque is permanent.
