Geocache Description:

Thousands of local Big Island residents along with visitors drive by this UNIQUE Wooden Sail Structure at the intersection of Waikoloa Road and Mamalahoa Highway (Hwy 190) and probably ask...Interesting Structure...What Is It?

Most descriptions say it's either a sundial or a stylized sail.

Rumors has it that it once was a sign post like a billboard with the Waikoloa Logo placed on each side just like a marker sign letting everyone know that Waikoloa Road was there while heading North or South on Mamalahoa Highway since back in the day there was no GPS in the car and people relied on the good old paper maps.

In 2014 during an interview with Waikoloa Village Association it stated that...

"The landmark was built around 1970 in the shape of an old-fashioned canoe sail, representing the ocean and sky."

If any of you fellow Geocachers have another source of this magnificent wooden beauty, I'd love to know too!

Please use caution when you approach the GZ as there are fast moving traffic on Mamalahoa Highway side. Utilize the Waikoloa Road to enter or park and make your way to the GZ is best.

CONGRATULATIONS Are In Order For FTF!!!
