The 19th Annual KC Area Geocacher's Picnic

When: Saturday August 24th, 2019

Where: Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park - Grand Pavilion - Lenexa, KS

Time: 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Wear your best Midwest Luau Geocaching Clothes for this year's event.  In addition to serving pulled pork BBQ, we'll be providing 1 other type of meat, & buns for sandwiches and a few sides, at no cost to you.  We're asking those of you with gardens (or local farmers markets) to bring along some of your homegrown sides to share.  Does anyone around here grow pineapple?  We could use some Luau fruit too!

If you bring extra sides, other then the homegrown items or fruit, just bring enough for your own group. We're not setting up any extra tables other then what we need for the main course, homegrown items and fruit.  Also, if you have dietary restrictions and want something other then BBQ, you're on your own, unless you can fill up on sides.

This is a preliminary schedule.  We're hoping to add more activities as the event gets closer.  That being said, with the Picnic location in Lenexa, KS this year, we'd like to see some cachers local to that area plan the activities for the afternoon.  Any cachers or groups of cachers who would like to plan and execute activities let us know. You can message or email the KC Picnic Crew.

ACTIVITY SCHEDULE:

  • 3:30pm to 6:15pm - Raffle Tables are open
  • 3:30pm to 6:30pm - Trackable Table is open
  • 3:30pm to 6:30pm - Kid's Caches are available
  • 4:30pm - 4:45pm - Group Photo
  • 5:00pm to 6:30pm - Picnic Meal
  • 6:30pm - Winner Announcements

CREATIVE CACHE MAKER CHALLENGE

Callling out to all cachers.  The gnomecat caching team is sponsoring a new activity this year and would love for you to all participate.  Please design and build a fun, unique, creative (you can make any theme you desire) geocache container and bring it to the picnic.  Your container will be judged by your fellow cachers.

There will be two categories for the competition.

  1. Organic, i.e. wood, stone etc.  You choose your material, but it must primarily be organic in nature.
  2. Inorganic, i.e. metal, plastic etc.  Again, you choose your material, but it must be primarily inorganic.

The winner of each category will be awarded either a Garmin Fenix2 watch with GPS or a Garmin DriveSmart 51LMT Nuvi.

If anyone would like to donate your amazing creation we will add them to the picnic raffle.  Just let us know when you arrive and check in.

Good luck, and have fun!  We are looking forward to seeing your creations!

RAFFLE & T-SHIRTS

The picnic raffle and t-shirt sales are instrumental in helping raise enough money to keep the picnic going year after year.  The picnic committee purchases a few items for the raffle, but we also rely on your contributions.

The "new" registration and t-shirt order form has been posted here. All t-shirt orders must be in by August 4th. Be sure to register so we can make plans for food and supplies.  Post your "Will Attends" and you will be notified when changes are made to this page.
