woolshed creek hut is definetly one of my go to places when i want to show friends or visitors from overseas a taste of NZ.
an Easy 3 hr hike thats what the sign says but i did it today in 3 hrs return including cache maintenance and placing this one .
its a great track to get kids out for an overnight stay , today i came across a couple of families with kids and none of them were over 5 years old .
my normal routine for this track is follow the orange markers up past the old mine then up again to get awesome views down to the hut ,just watch the kids on the way down as you do get close to the edge. on my return i follow the 4wd track that is behind the hut and easy to find this will take you up and over the saddle passed the cache and back to the track (clearly marked now). more of a" lolipop" than" loop' circuit.
as you reach the saddle above the hut you get a great view down into the stour river valley , cache is pretty obvious from the track but you will just need to make a short detour to make the find.
once you have reached the highest point of the track and start heading downhill you can see lake emily ,lake heron and of course the southern alps
