Devils Lakes is said to be named by the leader of the Potawatomi after his daughter, "who was an able swimmer" downed and her body was never recovered. The first settlers arrived in 1833 and the lake quickly became a favored resort. With over 1300 acres of water surface . It also just became home to the university of Michigan row team.
