I have always liked looking out for these barn quilts while out for a drive or caching along the back roads, it kind of makes the drive a little more pleasant in
HURON COUNTY.
The Ginn's have been around since the 1830's. This is the sixth generation of Ginn's to be farming in Huron County. This farm being bought his father back in 1952 has many hills and slope to make a good living with crops. So livestock is the main support here, dairy cows first, now purebred angus cow calf herd. Thus is the reason for the cow in the middle and the maple leaf to celebrate Canada's 150th and the fact that he wanted a red cow, making the maple leaf white.
IPM 2017 is where the barn quilt craze mainly started in Huron County as a contest.
Barn quilts originally started there roots in Ohio.
Barn quilts tell stories.
The proper size for a barn quilt is 8'x8'.
They draw motorists to our rural highways, roads that have many stories to tell.
Barn Quilts are rural graffiti – civic art about sacred places, battlefields, and historic locations.
