Geocache Description:

This letterbox will take you on a short walk through historic downtown Lowell. You will solve a simple field puzzle and then you will be able to find the container. It can be a busy area at times so please watch carefully for traffic and for muggles. Public parking is available by the starting coordinates.

The coordinates will bring you to a war memorial. Look for the yellow pedestrian sign and cross the street. You will then go under a metal arch and walk to the flagpoles. Depending on when you arrive at this point, you may see the remains of the old Lowell Showboat, you may not see anything or you may see the new Showboat taking shape. Follow the black railing on your left until you reach the end. Turn to the right and walk until you see a sign that tells you where to STOP. Turn to the right and follow the sidewalk until you see three murals on the right (if you reach the next STOP sign you have gone too far).

Here is the field puzzle: The final coordinates you need are N42 56.abc and W085 20.def

Start with the mural that is the furthest from Main Street.

a=the number of moose on the mural.

b=the number of owls and rabbits on the mural.

Now go to the middle mural:

c=the number of people on the mural times three

d=the number of bridges on the mural plus one

Now go to the third mural (the one closest to Main Street)

e=the number of letters in the first word of the name of the trail

f=the number of tents on the mural minus one.

Check sum: your numbers should add up to 18.

Walk to the coordinates and find the treasure that you seek.

We had to move the final a tiny bit because the tree the container was in was trimmed and we can no longer put the cache there. Check the hints for a great clue! Thanks go to the Letters From Home crew who donated their Michigan County stamps when their series was archived. The stamp in this cache represents a county that the trail goes through while traversing the Porcupine Mountains.
