This letterbox hybrid will take you on a walking tour in the Oakwood Cemetery. The cemetery was established in Lowell in 1871. In order to reach the cemetery you will drive through the older part of Lowell, we hope you enjoy seeing some of the older homes in the community. Since the cache is in a cemetery it is only available from dawn to dusk – night caching is not allowed in Michigan cemeteries.
The coordinates will take you to the old part of the cemetery, where you will see a statue dedicated to those who served during the War of the Rebellion (a title we'd not heard before). Stand by the mouth of the cannon and then walk forward 12 paces. Look to your left for the Howk house (at least we thought it looked like a house which we thought was rather interesting). Continue forward for 30 paces to the ilLUMANated marker. Turn right, walk past the handshake and cross the road. Stop before the next road and visit the Blaine's.
A good Hunter will look to the right and spot their next stop! Continue past the Hunter to the intersection and turn left. Cross one intersection and then turn left by the Staal markers.
Walk to the tree line and look to your right and you will see a bench. Just before you reach the bench you will see a tree that is always green. Look there for the treasure you seek.
Oops, the tree was cut down. Instead: walk behind the maintenance building so you are between the building and the fence. You'll see a wall and a big tree. Look near the big tree. The cache lines up with the back door of the building.
The stamp in this container was donated by the Letters From Home crew when they archived their series. This stamp reflects the county in which the cache is located.
