On June 18, 1913 the BC Electric Railway opened the route from Interurban to Deep Cove with a station at Dominion Brook Park. Eleven years later the line was closed down, a casualty of the depression. The trains brought many families to park and it remained a popular picnic spot until the federal funding to maintain the park ceased in the 1980s and the park was overgrown with blackberry and ivy. Today the park is still owned by the federal government of Canada and is being maintained and restored by a non profit organization "Friends of Dominion Brook Park" and the municipality of North Saanich. Volunteers have spent over 10,000 hours of clean up and rehabilitation work since 2001. Volunteers meet Wednesday mornings April to October to continue the restoration.
