Another in the series of War Memorial cache, see details for the series further down cache page .
Thorney Hill War Memorial, situated within All Saints’ Churchyard, Burley Road,and is listed at Grade II for the following principal according to the listing site : * Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on this community, and the sacrifices it made in the conflicts of the C20; * Architectural interest: by the nationally-renowned architect, Sir Herbert Baker, it is a characteristic octagonal-section cross bearing a carved sword of sacrifice; * Sculptural interest: high quality craftsmanship has been executed throughout, including an incised sword of sacrifice, elegant relief-carved principal inscription, and with lettering possibly by Eric Gill; * Historic association: as an example of a war memorial known to commemorate travellers, whose history, and especially involvement in the two World Wars and others is often under represented; * Group value: with the Church of All Saints (Grade I).

At the headline co-ords there is a plaque set into the pathway near the church door with the date 1994.
Note the first name mentioned on the plaque the proceed back along the path to the War Memorialon the right near the gate .

One of us walked the length of the lane in an endeaver to find a cache host tree that would not be overly affected by hostile summer vegetation, so we hope the endeaver succeeded in some measure .But it is a little walk from the nearest spot to get "wheels off the road. "
