Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES.

Memories and baseball go together more than any other sport in my opinion. Our local Padres have never given us the ultimate memory of a world championship but in their 50 seasons they have played so far, there have still been some good ones.

One of my favorites was when Trevor Hoffman got his 500th save in June 2007. He was the first pitcher to achieve that accomplishment in MLB history! After that who can forget Ken Caminiti’s “Snickers Game” which capped a historic Padres-Mets series in Mexico in August 1996? Even while suffering from food poisoning and dehydration he stayed in the lineup. A single Snickers bar fueled his 2 homer, 4 RBI performance. Of course none of this would have ever happened if the National League hadn’t voted to expand into Montreal and San Diego in May of 1968.

But I digress. Oh yes, there was that time in 1976 when Randy Jones won his National League Cy Young Award. I don’t think the Padres have ever had a more dominant pitcher. Their first super star was Nate Colbert’s who’s five-homer, 13-RBI doubleheader in Atlanta in August of 1972 has never been surpassed. Things weren’t all wine and roses in those early days though. They almost left town except Ray Kroc bought the Padres in January 1974 and kept them here. And it wasn’t but a few months later when Ray Kroc grabbed the microphone during his first home game as the Padres owner in April 1974 and made one of the most memorable nights.
