Geocache Description:

A monument to three New Brunswick sailors: William R. Jernee, William Henry Robinson, and John Henry Zeigler. All three lost their lives aboard the U.S.S. Maine when it suffered a (probable) boiler explosion in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898. At the time, however, a Naval Court of Inquiry concluded that a Spanish mine had destroyed the vessel.  This event was notable in the lead up to the Spanish-American War. The war resulted in America's occupation of Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and other Spanish colonies. The Monument was originally unveiled in Courthouse Square (current site of Middlesex County Courthouse) on Memorial Day, May 30th, 1899. It was later moved to its current location in Buccleuch Park.  The move took place in December of 1958.  There is also a small Howitzer Canon from a Cuban fort at the site.
