We see these big green things all the time, well, they are for underground electrical power distribution.
In days past electrical power was distributed on poles running behind one’s house and household voltages were tapped off the main line using cylindrical transformers seen mounted to the poles.
Now power is underground which is much more reliable (no downed lines due to trees, ice or weather) and arguably safer because downed live wires don’t happen and people don’t get electrocuted trimming trees (but does cost more). It also has the benefit of looking much nicer - wires do not crisscross the sky.
