Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark
A dél-szlovákiai és észak-magyarországi területeket átfogó Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark tagja az Európai és Globális Geoparkok Hálózatának. A régészeti, néprajzi, történelmi, kulturális értékek bemutatásán dolgozó, 64 Nógrád megyei és 28 szlovákiai települést magában foglaló geopark fejlesztéseit a Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark Nonprofit Kft. fogja össze. A cég partnerei között van többek között az Ipoly Erdő Zrt., a Bükki Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság, Salgótarján és Hollókő önkormányzata, Fülek városa és a Füleki Vármúzeum.
A világ első határon átnyúló geoparkjának kiemelt látnivalói közé tartoznak a 2,5-6 millió évvel ezelőtt itt működő tűzhányók ma is látható emlékei. A vulkáni kürtők maradványai, a bazaltoszlopok és a vulkáni működés különböző szakaszait megőrző, felhagyott kőbányák izgalmas földtani felfedezésekre csábítanak. Itt található Európa legnagyobb bazaltfennsíkja, a Medves-fennsík, ahol könnyű túrákat lehet tenni a friss levegőn. A terület klímája szubalpin, ami nem is csoda, hiszen az északi határ mentén, hegyek között járunk. Tiszta időben jól láthatóak a csúcsokról a Magas-Tátra bércei.
Évről évre megszervezik a Geoparkok hete rendezvénysorozatát, amelyen ezernél több óvodást, iskolást és felnőttet szólítanak meg, módszertani kézikönyveket, tananyagokat, munkafüzeteket készítettek. Tavaly első ízben szervezték meg a Medvesi Fotós Maratont és a Karancs-Medves vidékén készült több tízezer minőségi fotó segített a nehézipari múlt sztereotípiáinak lerombolásában, a táj szépségeinek bemutatásában.
A Novohrad−Nógrád Geopark eresztvényi látogatóközpontjában szívesen segítik a turistákat információval, programszervezéssel, hogy fölfedezzék ezt a varázslatos vidéket. Az épületben büfé és ajándékshop is működik. A látogatóközpontban a többi geoparki látnivalót is szívesen ajánlják az ideérkezők figyelmébe, de szerveznek szemétszedést, előadásokat vagy gyermekfoglalkozásokat.

The Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark, which covers areas of southern Slovakia and northern Hungary, is a member of the European and Global Geopark Network. The development of the geopark, which highlights archaeological, ethnographic, historical, cultural values of 64 settlemets in Nógrád and 28 settlements in Slovakia, is organized by Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark Nonprofit Kft. The company's partners include Ipoly Erdő Zrt., Bükk National Park Directorate, Salgótarján and Hollókő Municipality, City of Fülek and Fülek Castle Museum.
One of the top attractions of the world's first cross-border geopark include the still-present memories of the volcanoes that were working here 2.5-6 million years ago. The remains of volcanic chimneys, the abandoned quarries that preserve the various stages of basalt columns and volcanic activity represent exciting geological discoveries. Here you will find the largest basalt plateau in Europe, the Medves Plateau, where you can take light tours in the fresh air. The climate of the area is subalpine, which is no wonder, as we are in the mountains along the northern border. In clear weather you can see the peaks of the High Tatras.

Year after year, the Geopark Week's series of events is organized, where more than a thousand preschoolers, schools and adults are invited, methodological manuals, study materials and workbooks are prepared. For the first time last year, the Medvesi Photographer Marathon was organized and tens of thousands of quality photos made in the Karancs-Medves region helped to destroy the stereotypes of the heavy industry past and present the beauty of the landscape.
The Novohrad-Nógrád Geopark Visitor Center is happy to help tourists with information and program organization to discover this magical countryside. There is also a snack bar and a gift shop in the building. In the visitor center, other geopark attractions are also presented to the visitors, but they organize garbage collection, host lectures or activities for children.
