Welcome to Old Town!
If you like corny jokes, cool historic tunnels, and peaceful water views, you'll love this cache. Once you find it, you'll understand the cache's title if you read what's on the container lid.
The Wilkes Street Tunnel originally was a railroad tunnel used by Union troops during the Civil War to ship supplies from Alexandria to Richmond and points south. Now it's a shortcut to one of our favorite parks in all of Alexandria.
We do ask that return the container back securely and covered with a rock so no muggles will mess with it then continue to the other end of the tunnel to enjoy some beautiful water views at Windmill Park.
Better yet, follow the newly renovated public trail next to the water and check out the awesome community of boats, birds, and beavers that call the Potomac home. This trail extends for about a mile and makes for a very pretty walk to the Jones Point Lighthouse, the last riverine lighthouse in Virginia.
If you do take a dino, please leave a little something behind for the next person. And don't forget to write your name and your favorite joke in the log book!
