Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the given coordinates. Rather, this is a very simple type of Offset/Puzzle Cache. The directions for finding the final coordinates are given in the description below. Due to issues with finicky GPS signals in Black Cat Alley itself, you will also find alternative directions to the cache in case your GPS is inadequate to the task.

Black Cat Alley is a free outdoor art installation in an eclectic and eccentric area of Milwaukee’s East Side, featuring more than 20 large and small murals by artists from Milwaukee and around the world. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.  Black Cat Alley also occasionally plays host to temporary art, such as Chalk Art.  Black Cat Alley was developed by the East Side Business Improvement District and first opened in 2016.

Black Cat Alley is a “working alley” serving the surrounding businesses, so you will see dumpsters, utility meters, and the like.  This removes some of the sterility often experienced when art is segregated from the real world.

Fun facts: An estimated 15,000 people a year visit Black Cat Alley. At least eight couples have had wedding pictures taken in Black Cat Alley, and organizers are aware of seven music videos filmed there. Every spring, dozens of senior pictures are snapped in the alley. The thousands of selfies taken in the Alley have led people to label it “the most photographed location in the city”!

To Find the Cache

The given coordinates above take you to the northern entrance to Black Cat Alley.  To find the cache, you will need to travel through the alley, hopefully admiring the many murals. For the final coordinates, SUBTRACT 25 from the North coordinates and ADD 23 to the West coordinates.
If your GPS doesn't work in the alley for some reason, walk through until you find THE Black Cat Alley mural.  Immediately across from the large hissing black cat, you will find a bench from which to sit and admire a small garden (at least when it is not covered in snow).   The cache is a small inverted lock-n-lock type container, large enough for some small swag and TBs.

Black Cat Alley can be very busy, especially during nice weather, so stealth is critically important.

The manager of Black Cat Alley, Stacey Williams-Ng, gave permission and encouragement to place this geocache.  She will be monitoring the logs for this cache and would appreciate your impressions and any feedback.

Posting original photos of the artwork and surrounding area to the gallery is encouraged!

You can find more information about Black Cat Alley, including information on individual murals and their creators, at the Black Cat Alley Website here.

And finally, you will want to check out the “Glitch Frog” mural painted by French artist MTO.  Simply exit the south end of the Alley, cross E. Kenilworth Place, and then turn around and look up.  You can’t miss it.

P.S.  If you like these murals, you might also want to check out Stacey's Leopard mural a block away:  N 43 03.546  W 87 53.196
