The first race at the Bahrain International Circuit took place on 4 April, 2004. It made history as the first Formula One Grand Prix to be held in the Middle East, and was given the award for the "Best Organized Grand Prix" by the FIA. That first race in 2004 was won by German driver Michael Schumacher for Ferrari.
In 2019 Charles Leclerc started from Pole Position. This was his first pole in a F1 race and at 21 years of age he was also the youngest driver to qualify for Pole Position. The March 31, 2019 race was won under the Yellow Flag by Britain’s Lewis Hamilton driving a Mercedes, which permitted Charles Leclerc of Monaco, after having led most of the race but having to drop back due to mechanical failure in his Ferrari to finish in 3rd place. Charles Leclerc also completed the fastest lap of the 5.412 Km circuit with a time of 1:33.411 which gained him an extra point towards the championship.
