Please read the entire cache description to avoid disappointing, frustrating or endangering yourself while searching for this cache.
This cache involves navigating through a series of 20+ waypoints, and it must be performed during darkness. All waypoints are marked with highly reflective GeoTacks, which are best seen with a high intensity flashlight held at eye level. Most of the tacks will be 200’-250’ apart, and I can’t stress enough how important your flashlight will be. One of those palm sized, black anodized “TechLites” work perfectly. They’re inexpensive, easy to carry/transport and store just about anywhere. Headlamps are also helpful for traversing the ground in between the waypoints.
Park and walk the few feet to GZ and use your flashlight to scan for the first GeoTack. It should be visible about 50’ away at a bearing of 320 degrees (N/W). Once you locate it, walk to a point a few feet from where it’s attached. The second tack will be visible a little over 200’ away along the same bearing. Walk to this tack and scan again, as this bearing and the future ones will vary (the bearing will never be directly behind you!).
Most of the Tacks will be bright white in color, but four of them will be gold. Those four Tacks will have a metal tag attached below them with a number written on it. Record these numbers in the sequence you find them, as they will correspond to the combination on the lock that secures the container at the final waypoint. The final waypoint will be marked with a different reflective material than the others.
The small parking location near GZ is alongside a dirt road about a 1/4 mile off a paved road. Most vehicles should be able to drive to it. Your hike will cover a little over a mile of level desert terrain, which I strongly recommend you do at a slow pace. This will allow you to see and hopefully avoid as much of the seemingly endless cactus you will find on and above the ground. The usual desert warnings apply here, along with nocturnal species warnings.
Please insure that each individual cacher signs the cache log clearly, as these will need to correspond to those that are posted on line. Please feel free to take one of the glow sticks I’ve stocked the container with, and then re-secure the container as you found it.
I do not recommend this cache for younger children due to the amount of cactus that is present throughout the hike!
