Tilford Gulch is located between Piedmont and Sturgis along I-90. . It is named for J. G. Tilford, a Civil War soldier who due to his "faithful and meritorious services" became a Major in the 7th US Cavalry, November 27, 1867. He was granted a leave of absence in 1876 and thus did not accompany General George A.Custer and the 7th Cavalry to engage the the Sioux Indians in the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. * * * * Lucky for him. * * * * See photos. BYOP Be prepared to CITO the area. It appears to be unmaintained and trash blows in..
