Geocache Description:

The co-ordinates above are not for the cache, but are for a suitable place to park in Itter Crescent.

This cache is situated by a park within a residential area of Peterborough. The park is officially closed from Dusk til Dawn. Please do not attempt to search for the cache during these times. Thank you.

There are events held in the park in the summer months. It is not recommended that you attempt this cache at these times as some parts of the park may not be accessible.

Buggies and wheelchair users should be able to get around finding the clues but will need assistance to retrieve the cache. Dogs are welcome but do need to be kept on a lead in the formal gardens.

This is a reimagined cache of the one formerly set by Tiggersabout (GC1GDXC); many thanks for your help.

ITTER PARK

Situated off Fulbridge Road, just before you get to Paston church heading away from the city lies Itter Park.

The park was donated to the City of Peterborough in memory of the late former mayor Arthur Itter by his family.

It was formally opened on the 12 June 1936.

Arthur Itter was only in office as mayor for two months before he died at the early age of 35 from a sudden illness. His family felt that this was the type of project he would have been interested in had he lived longer. The original cost for the park was around £4,000.

A further 4 acres adjacent to the recreation ground was later acquired in 1937 for the sum of around £4,700. There was great debate within the council over the cost for this at the time.

The park is one of the greatest gifts to be received by the City of Peterborough.

The park comprises 14 acres of parkland and formal gardens including many facilities such as a bowling green, tennis courts, table tennis, refreshments kiosk, outdoor gym and a modern play park.

The park benefits from the volunteers of Friends of Itter Park group who work in partnership with the city council and its contractors to improve the park and play host to many events throughout the year.

In 2007 Itter Park was one of only two parks in the city to be awarded the Green Flag award. The Green Flag is the national standard for parks and green spaces and is awarded to the best green spaces in the country as a way to encourage others. It has retained this award every year since.

To find the cache you need to take a short walk around the park and answer four questions.
