This cache has been archived.

baby_paramedic: Due to this cache being muggled frequently, myself and EWOK have decided to archive it. Thanks for finding to everyone who has made the journey up the coast so far.

Big thanks to EWOK for helping with this cache for the last few years. What a legend!

Geocache Description:

Kia ora! Welcome to Ruatoria, the home of these watchful warriors.

Ruatoria is the third largest township on the East Coast, home to the people of Ngati Porou.

Here you will find clean public toilets, a well stocked Four Square general store, a petrol station, a cafe open weekdays during school hours, and Ruatoria's best (and only) fush and chups at the Kai (food) Kart.

The warriors sit nearby a great kodak moment, with Mount Hikurangi, the Ngati Porou maunga situated in the background. Hikurangi is the highest non-volcanic peak in the North Island, the summit is the first place to see the sun each morning. The Ngati Porou Maori belive that the spirits of their deceased sail away from Hikurangi toward the sun at dawn each morning in their waka, when they pass away. Hikurangi can be visited, situated only 10 minutes out of town, it can be visited on the way to the other East Cape caches if you're inclined.

Please use stealth when retrieving the cache, if spotted the cache WILL be muggled by local children or interested adults. There is a nearby picnic bench that can be used when planning your attack on the warriors and signing the log. Please place back exactly where you found it.

Happy caching!
