This geocache is located in the City of Decatur's Legacy Park, formerly the the United Methodist Children’s Home. This 77 acre campus was established in 1873 to care for children orphaned during the Civil War, and had its own water system, school and church. It also had a farm which provided much of the food for the children. Many children came to the Home at an early age and stayed until they went away to college or out on their own. Capacity was 150 by the late 1960s. Over the years, the Children’s Home began offering additional services to children, teens, and families, including foster care, adoption, independent living, transitional living, and family housing.
In the years before The City of Decatur purchased the property in 2018, the forest where this cache is located contained a team-building ropes and challenge course. Most of the course is now gone, but a few obstacles remain -- and one of them hides this cache!
