There are a number of species that are very similar and lumped into this group, but they are all really similar, a fishing guide I once knew on the Gunflint Trail said you fish for whitefish in bad weather, since they live so deep that the weather is always the same down there. This is a cache that you should be able to pick up anytime, as long as your digits work.
