Geocache Description:

Bayswater Lagoon

Bayswater is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in the Chester Municipal District on the Aspotogan Peninsula accessed by the Lighthouse Route (Nova Scotia Route 329). At this site there is also Bayswater Beach Provincial Park where the beach park features a large white-sand beach and a picnic area with a view of the open ocean.

Lagoons are shallow, often elongated bodies of water separated from a larger body of water by a shallow or exposed shoal, coral reef, or similar feature. Some authorities include fresh water bodies in the definition of "lagoon",   while others explicitly restrict "lagoon" to bodies of water with some degree of salinity. lagoons as normally being elongated parallel to the coast, while estuaries are usually drowned river valleys, elongated perpendicular to the coast.  Coastal lagoons are classified as inland bodies of water.

At the ground zero two sand bars have formed, one from each side and overlap in the middle but do not touch. You can see them in the picture below. They have become so wide there is a road, parking lot and provincial park on the east sandbar.

A bar, spit or sandspit is a deposition bar or beach landform off coasts or lake shores. It develops in places where re-entrance occurs, such as at a cove's headlands, by the process of longshore drift caused by longshore currents. The drift occurs due to waves meeting the beach at an oblique angle, moving sediment down the beach in a zigzag pattern. This is complemented by longshore currents, which further transport sediment through the water alongside the beach. These currents are caused by the same waves that cause the drift.
