Geocache Description:


COBB & CO STAGING POST Dry Creek area was once a busy alluvial gold mining area which began as early as 1851. By 1868 it had a population of 100 European and 50 Chinese miners.  A year later Dry Creek boasted a population of 200 Europeans It was here at Dry Creek that there was a former Cobb and Co 'Change-over Station' This was on the route from Mansfield to Merton going via Ancona to Dry Creek and Maindample. 60 horses were kept in readiness at Dry Creek to 'change over' the tired beasts arriving enroute from either Merton or Mansfield with the fresh horses from here.
