Shad Martin
This is a Tribute to my friend Shad Martin who died on 3/19/19. We hiked this canyon from Thompson Draw to Gisela a few different times. Shad made a documentary movie that won 1st place in a film festival about this canyon and the people that hike it.

This Multicache will take you on the journey that Shad and his friends loved. You will hike through the Hellsgate Wilderness. The hike is 23 miles long from the Bear Flats Campground to Gisela. There are numerous pools that will have to be swam and many more that will have to be waded through. A few places require jumping off waterfalls into pools below. This area is prone to flash floods also. Please consult this site to check on the water levels of Tonto Creek.

This is not a cache for the out-of-shape or the faint of heart. The hike is EXTREMELY STRENUOUS. When placing this cache, the group of friends that hiked this regularly with Shad only moved about 3-4 miles per day (the water was muddy and this contributed to the slower pace). I would not plan on more than 5-6 miles per day.
