The Cheltenham Elephants are something of a local legend - immortalised here in mosaic form.
On Saturday 24th March 1934 Chapman's Great London Zoo-Circus was visiting the town and, as part of the pre-show publicity, three elephants were paraded through the town centre.
Whether by accident, or as a deliberate publicity stunt, two of the elephants broke free and made a beeline for Mr Bloodworths' Seed and Feed Merchants, where one of them made its way inside for a snack whilst the other got itself stuck in the doorway.
This event is, naturally, became somewhat of a piece of local folklore and, in 1993 it was depicted by Turton and Robertson in 5 mosaics made up of over 90,000 pieces on the wall of the town's Woolworths store.
It would be easy to walk past the site without knowing, and so this cache has been placed to draw your attention!
