This is a quick, easy multi with virtual stops ending in a place that will be familiar to most people. It involves a short .25 mile level walk. You can also drive.

This branch is celebrating it’s 100 year anniversary. Over the years it has been housed in four other locations. Your mission is to visit three of them on a fun and short walk, collecting simple clues to enable you to find the prize located @ ABC.DCBA. Once you have the first three clues you will enter the building, complete one more mission and by putting all the numbers together... claim your smiley. Remember to speak quietly once inside.

From the parking coordinates, make your way to Stage 1.

Stage 1 (N 38° 14.416 W 121° 30.895): In 1919 this branch was founded in the home in front of you. They began with only 31 customers, but quickly grew to 1,202 by 1922. It is estimated that around the time this facility opened, two thirds of the city’s 900 residents were Chinese or Japanese Americans. Rent was $55 a month. Mrs. Pearl Arlin was the first custodian during this time.

Mission: B = the number of tall posts along the porch.

Okay, let's continue to stage 2.

Stage 2 (N 38° 14.407 W 121° 30.855): In 1940 the branch moved down the street and rented this location for $25 a month. Ethel M Carr was branch manager at this time.

Mission: C = the number of steps leading up to the porch (yes, the porch is counted as a step).

Great! Let's check out stage 3.

Stage 3 (N 38° 14.454 W 121° 30.877) is literally right across the street from the parking coordinates. From 1959 to 1970 this branch was located in a 450 Sq. Ft. building below the Post Office. Edith Henderson was the assistant manager at this location.

Mission: D = Identify the color of the railing leading up the side steps.

[Yellow=1] [Red=2] [Blue=3] [Black=4] [White=5] [Green=6] [Purple=7] [Brown=8] [Silver=9]

Finally, it's time to head inside and complete the last mission. Cross the street and enter the branch on the NORTHEAST side.

In 1970 the branch moved to its current location. As of 2018 and under Delta Branches Supervisor Natalie Beaver, this branch has 1,383 cardholders and circulation was 15,851.

Mission: A = The number of letters in the name of “The Reading Girl” statue.

The final location is: ABC.DCBA (Carefully substitute the mission answers for the correct letter)

Many thanks to Delta Branches Supervisors Cara and Natalie and their staff for making this cache possible!
