Mihailo Petrovic, known as Mika Alas, came to Djurđevdan on May 6, 1868, and left for him on June 8, 1943 at Kosancic's wreath. It comes from a priestly family. He studied in his native Belgrade - he completed the First Belgrade High School in the generation with Milorad Mitrovic, Jovan Cvijic, Jaso Prodanovic, Pavel Popovic, about which the writer Milovan Vitezovic wrote a cult novel, "The hat of professor Kosta Vujic", first transferred to the film, and later popular TV series. Afterwards he studied at the Natural Sciences Department of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade in order to continue his education in Paris. At Sorbonne he graduated in mathematical and physical sciences, defended his doctoral dissertation in the field of differential equations. As the best student in the generation, he was twice at the reception with the French president. Dimitrija Nesic was succeeded at the University of Belgrade in 1894 at the professorial place for the mathematical group of subjects.
He taught students until his retirement in 1938. Under his mentorship at the University of Ljubljana, all doctoral dissertations in mathematics from 1912 until the Second World War were defended. He is also credited with the founding of the Mathematical Gymnasium in Belgrade. At the age of 29, he became a correspondent, and at the age of 31 he was a regular member of the Serbian Royal Academy, which did not interfere with his membership in several foreign academies of science and mathematical societies. It is said that the authorities on two occasions - in 1927 and 1931 - rejected the unanimous proposal of the academician to be the president of the Academy, because of his friendship with the elder brother of King Alexander the Great, Prince George Djordje Karadjordjevic, with whom he shared the fishing passion and whose private professor was. Honorary Doctor BU became 1939, when the SPC decorated him with the Order of St. Sava. In addition to a large number of scientific papers - 14 monographs and about 260 expert-scientific debates, which he published around the world, Mihailo Petrovic had a number of inventions.
In the French Patent Office, he registered five original practical inventions, and also belongs to pioneers of modern computing. He built a hydrointegrator - the first analog hydraulic computer, with which he won a bronze medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 and a graduate diploma of mathematicians of London at the exhibition in 1907. We hope that you will enjoy the search for our geochache. It's small so bring a pen.
