Geocache Description:

This is my 100th placement and after considering different options to “celebrate” it I have decided instead it’s time to give my thanks to all the CO’s who have made this such an enjoyable past time.

There are many tales that could be told about my various adventures in pursuit of a piece of paper hidden in a container somewhere and of course some stand out more than others.

Firstly I have to thank hazedarus without whom I wouldn’t have persisted when my instinct was sometimes to turn back and head for the comforts of home.

What would our find numbers look like without the enormous contribution of bumandworker whose placements have pushed my boundaries at times. I can only imagine his thoughts if he had seen me struggling up Dead Horse Creek where if I had a good grip with my arms then my feet weren’t touching the bottom at times as I scrambled up and over flood debris, foolhardy I know but at the time the adrenalin was flowing. Or me standing in the pouring rain making a tent with my $2 shop poncho while hazedarus crouched on the ground underneath keeping the cache dry while the log was signed at Mt Glasgow.

So often when finding a cache by kiwi-nomad I have wished for even just a tiny bit of his imagination and ingenuity. Is it any wonder his are the first recommendations for anyone with limited time asking which caches to attempt while in Nelson.

Puzzles, love them or hate them but I suspect we all attempt them. It’s always a bit of a “luck of the draw” whether I can solve them or have to scrounge a hint from someone but I always feel a great sense of satisfaction when I get ‘the green tick’ with a SoBad puzzle, likewise with any from Sidewaze.

The Welcome to Nelson Challenge  created by BigglesNZ  was the first of many subsequent challenges I have enjoyed. Likewise the “I See Nothing” series by Kiwi_Explorer taught me several techniques for solving puzzles, valuable learning.

Who can ever forget our beloved Ron, a big cuddly bear of a man and one half of the no.13 team who made us feel so welcome when we joined the geocaching community. I have this enduring vision of him transporting and placing their “Micro on Rabbit Island” I wish I had seen it.

Gracie7 + Mum are synonymous with caching on the West Coast not to mention their series both there and in Canterbury. There would be few of us who have not boosted our numbers quickly by completing at least one of them, usually more.

I have always been a reasonably frequent visitor to Marlborough but those visits have increased markedly with the advent of “The Blenheim Boys” in to the geocaching fraternity there. Eventually we became known as the “Nelson Interlopers” as we hoovered up FTF’s in their realm. This in turn gave rise to The Raiders From the West series, initiated by Kiwi_Explorer and continued by others.

The Wineries of Marlborough series begun by Kiwimykl, NZ birds and That Song (Album) by…  by capperz are always informative. The Railways of Marlborough by the Seagnoid are always an interesting read. The teamwork required for one of his Attribute series then the drip feeding of information for the rest are fond memories of how this activity can dictate when certain routine things are done. His generosity in hosting the annual GIFF evening is always appreciated too. Generosity is a word I also attribute to GH6710. I was at an Event in Blenheim one day when he handed me an ammo can, already camo’d which I placed on one of my favourite walks; the Braeburn Track. GC6REK3 An Enchanting Walk is the result.

There are many others who have helped make this such an enjoyable activity, too many to mention but maybe when I place my 200th…….. In the meantime I thank you all.
