Geocache Description:

Not only does Mason City Rock, It Rolls Too!

I have thought about for some time doing a more "traditional" Letterbox where in order to find the container you would need to go to some posted coordinates first and then continue to use your GPS and follow additional instructions leading you closer to your objective. I tried doing one like this in the country once, but not being a country boy, when I put in the description to turn 90 degrees to your right when you get to the cow never realizing until the next day when I went back to verify coordinates that the cow wouldn't be there. First attempt did not go well. I guess I am more of a city fellow, and you won't even see a sign with a cow on it in your short travels to this letterbox.

The posted coordinates take you to a spot to begin your journey. The cache is accessable 24/7 and when you find it you will discover that is large enough for some swag, a few trackables and you will also find a pen or two along with the log book for you to sign.  A special stamp made for this cache along with a stamp pad are also inside the container. DO NOT remove the stamp or pad from the letterbox. That is one of the things that makes the letterbox different and unique.

Now Your Directions

When you arrive at the posted coordinates you will see a large flat rock. (After all, Mason City does Rock!) This is your starting point. From the large flat rock go across the street heading mostly 90 degrees for aproximately 1,850 feet . You will go past three signs that are in the shape of an octagon. Be sure to obey these three signs. After going past the third of these signs continue in the same direction for an additional 360 feet where you will see two large containers. Turn and face 180 degrees and walk aproximately 85 feet. Continue in the same direction one more step. Remember, the cache is available 24/7. Look around and you will see what you are after.

Many of you know of how much I like the Music Man. To give you an idea just look South of Mason City for an indication. That being said I have something special for the First To Find. It is a dvd of the 1962 musical "The Music Man". One small thing, the Music Man DVD is not in the cache container but there is a yellow coupon attached to the log book for the FTF. Fill the coupon out as directed and instructions on how and where to redeem it are also included. But, not to worry, if for some reason you are unable to pick up your copy of the Music Man at the same time as when you record your find I will see that you get your copy.

This cache was placed with permission of Lindsay James, executive director of Visit Mason City. In your online log it would be nice to say where you are from and what brings you to Mason City.

If you have time take a look at my other letterbox GC7B569< This letterbox has over 200 favorite points and is a premium member only cache. It can be a bit frustrating and fun at the same time. I would love to have you visit.

Congratutations to BlackHoleSurfer for the FTF
