The most conspicuous houses in this block were built not by architects, but by people who occupied a much lower level in the building hierarchy — technicians. Technician Dmitry Smirnov worked as an assistant with the famous architect Frederick Lidvall, and, probably, learned a lot from the main Russian Swede.
By 1912, the modern style had time to appear from different sides. In particular, the northern modernity appeared, inspired by the national-romantic explorations of our northern neighbors. This house is also reminiscent of the Swedish and Finnish spirit.
In the guise of his tower-bay windows under heavy helmets there is something Finnish, but the symmetry, especially traditional ornaments, and the modesty of the finish in general - from Stockholm.

К 1912 году стиль модерн успел проявиться с разных сторон. В том числе, появился и северный модерн, вдохновленный национально-романтическими изысканиями наших северных соседей. О шведском и финском духе напоминает и этот дом.
В облике его башен-эркеров под увесистыми шлемами есть нечто финское, а вот симметрия, сугубо традиционные орнаменты, вообще скромность отделки — из Стокгольма.
