Arrival at GZ. means that you are now using an old tramway formation ...... part of the old Don to Lower Barrington tramway which served as access for timber getting in the 1850's, and then for servicing the farming populations throughout the valley. In fact you would have already passed the site of Talba Station. This and much more fascinating local history can be found in "Immense Enjoyment" the journals of William L Wells (edited by Faye Gardam) and "Sawdust, Sails and Sweat" by Faye Gardam. Close at hand, and well worth making this visit into a memorable one, you could visit the Tasmanian Arboretum Inc. (entry fee and conditions apply) ..... an extensive botanical tree park with links to other arboreta throughout the world.
