Il brugo, Calluna vulgaris L., è una pianta spontanea erbacea/arbustiva sempreverde perenne, a crescita lenta, con foglie aghiformi di colore verde intenso, fiori piccoli numerosissimi in genere lilla/violacei che si sviluppano in agosto/novembre. È una pianta tipica delle brughiere e delle lande ed ama i terreni acidi e ben drenati, in pieno sole o parzialmente in ombra. Il brugo rappresenta un toccasana per i reumatismi, ha inoltre azione diuretica e depurativa ed è un buon aiuto nel caso di infezioni urinarie. Si tratta di una pianta mellifera, dunque dai suoi fiori si ricava un miele monoflora molto scuro; inoltre è usata come pianta ornamentale nei giardini e a scopo paesaggistico.

Heather, Calluna vulgaris L., is an evergreen spontaneous perennial herbaceous plant or shrub, slow-growing and with needle-shaped leaves of an intense green colour, very numerous small flowers usually lilac/purple, which grow in August/November.
