Mars is very much an active planet. Every year over 200 asteroids impact the planet. In June, 2018, a fairly large asteroid 86CY5 T-1 crashed onto the Syrtis Major Planum in the Syrtis Major quadrangle, located near 21.5° north latitude and 299.2° west longitude. Viewed from the International Space Station, the impact was quite stunning. According to the scientists that were on board a lot of debris went into the upper atmosphere of Mars. Some fragments of the debris escaped the atmosphere and the gravitational pull of the planet. Some eventually settled into an orbit around the red planet, others floated off into space. Little did anyone know that one such piece of rock would make its way to Earth, destroying KalamSat-v4, a Telecom satellite, on it's trajectory to a little visited place in Spokane County. Put on the Spokane Heritage Protective Act List, this red rock sits here for all visitors to study, touch, and photograph. Be careful though, do not try to remove it, it is much, much heavier than it looks.

We hope you will have fun winning with your successful completion of the FUN Geocoin Challenge where you will be rewarded with a trackable Geocoin, even if it is by a nose.
- All caches begin with the series name FUN: followed by a snazzy name so they are easy to search. We also made a FUN Bookmark of the caches.
