Constantia Nek 3
Welcome to our ‘nek’ of the woods! For this cache you’ll be heading towards Hout Bay. It is thought that the Portuguese explorers may have landed here in the late 1400’s but the came the English (for a day) in 1607!! The ship ‘Consent’ was becalmed in the bay and an exploratory party went ashore. When the Dutch set up a settlement at the Cape in 1652, wood was needed for repairing vessels – hence the name Hout (wood) Bay.
Hout Bay ‘officially’ became a Republic on 23rd May 1987 and since then the passport has drawn world wide publicity.
For the love of Hout Bay, may it’s meandering valley and stretching sand, inspire others as it has captivated us.
