Geocache Description:

Consider parking at 33’42.737N 118’17.638W for an incredible view of the coast. International and long distance traveling cache seekers can stay at the International Youth Hostel 33’42.683N 118’17.638W.

Then, let an easy walk take you for a glimpse into the cold war era while seeking this cache hidden on the grounds of a former military installation. Today it’s the center of San Pedro’s bustling creative community, but at one time, the barracks, bunkers, and tunnels here were host to our military men diligently protecting us from the ever present threat of coastal attack. In addition to sculptures and outdoor installation pieces, this hilltop is also home to interesting sites like:

Angels Gate Cultural Center Office/Shop (open 9am-5pm Tu-Fri) 33’42.802N 118’17.610W.

Visit galleries, and get glimpses of artists’ nearby studios. Check their website for upcoming events!

Marine Mammal Care Center, Oiled Bird Care and Education Center, and Mission Maria Stella Maris 33’42.827N 118’17.798W (coordinates should place you on a Marine Mammal Habitat Map, can you find the coordinates for a map of the world in this same parking lot?).

Ft. McArthur Museum (open Sat. & Sun. 12-5 pm) 33’42.773N 118’17.765W . Learn more about this hill’s fascinating history.
