This cache is the first of a series of four caches - 3 Traditional and a Mystery cache on a hike towards Observation Point
The other caches being -"Towards Observation Point - Silverleaves" , "Towards Observation Point - Isthmus and "Towards Observational Point - Return."
This semi-wilderness area on Phillip Island is a sanctuary to many bird species particularly the hooded plover. If you hike from the Silverleaves Moss cache, it is a 6 km return journey along the shoreline with no path to Observation point itself. You will be walking on sand.
The 2-meter variation in tide in these parts makes the beach look entirely different between low and high tide. Accessibility along the beach can be harder at high tide.
Go to this website link - Cowes tides for up to date tide information.
The Silverleaves General Store is open again but please observe the parking signs if present. Driving down Silverleaves Avenue brings you closer to the caches and reduces the hiking distance, but there is no allocated parking along this narrow road so if doing so, park with discretion and try not to upset the locals. .
Please observe the no go areas (hooded plover nests especially) and no dogs, please.
I placed this cache off this sandy path down a wallaby path to the Left as you come off the beach - ( now a geocacher's path as well). In the photo below is my mountain bike against the tree at the entrance to the wallaby path coming from the beach way. The dead end east end of Silverleaves Avenue is where this track starts to go to the beach - so the Wallaby way is to the Right of the track if you come this way.
There is a small climb up a tree at GZ so you can hover around and watch any wallabies below - more likely in the early hours of the morning or at dusk.
The Cache - you are looking for a small cylinder container. Please screw back in place as it is exposed to elements- It does NOT have a pencil/ pen so BYO writing instrument or print your paw print. Medallion to the FTF.
