The Great Pretender was in the top 60 hits of the 1950s. It was sung by The Platters who had many other hits such as Only You and I'm Sorry. They later started making hits out of previously recorded songs such as Twilight Time and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. The group is still performing although there have been many changes of singers over the years, with the most major change coming in 1970. Only one of the original Platters is still alive. They are known for singing rock n roll, the blues, soul, rhythm and blues, and doo-wop.
