This cache is hidden in a small tract of Rothrock State Forest located near a popular spur of the Standing Stone Trail known as Throne Room. This is by far one of the best vistas around providing at least a 270 degree panoramic view to the North. Be sure to plan a visit on a day with ideal visibility to see for miles in any direction! Easily my favorite vista in central PA. Be sure to allow several hours for this adventure as provided via waypoints or for a full day hike on a SST section.
There are several ways to get here. Through hiking a section of the SST is obviously one of them but there are access roads on either side of the ridge that will eventually intersect the trail and the location can then be hiked to from either the North or the South. The suggested waypoints are the ideal approach and will have a better parking area near the fire tower. A vehicle with some ground clearance is recommended to reach the parking waypoint as the the mountain road is heavily swaled rather than culverted. From there you are in for a little over one mile, one way, on an amazingly maintained and secluded ridge trail. PLEASE NOTE that although the trail borders state forest, much of the ridge top is a private property right of way and has signage explaining. Please remain on trail/spurs until less than 100 feet from the cache coordinates. The featured vista is on a spur of less than 1,000 feet; don't miss out on this!
Wear orange during hunting season as the area is hunted. There is bordering SGL as well as a private hunting camp that allows visitors to the vista via the trail spur. Be safe! Enjoy your time here! Plan accordingly and replace as found! Enjoy! PNDI (ID# 685747)
