ScruffyBug: After adoption, a cacher went to find this cache and was chased away. I went to speak to the property owner... turns out, permission was NEVER given for this hide. As much as I've enjoyed this cache and location, the property owner does not give permission for a hide here.

Welcome to Alexanders Mill


Originally this cache was place by dertiu8 and Becky. I have adopted this cache as of July 2024. While I have tried to keep this cache with it's originally intended form, I have adjusted a bit. This cache is now a small cache instead of a micro. Small enough to keep hidden, but large enough for small swag and trackables. I don't know the history of this relic of the past but from the looks of things it's an old gristmill.

Although the terms "gristmill" or "corn mill" can refer to any mill that grinds grain, the terms were used historically for a local mill where farmers brought their own grain and received back ground meal or flour, minus a percentage called the "miller's toll." Early mills were almost always built and supported by farming communities and the miller received the "miller's toll" in lieu of wages. Most towns and villages had their own mill so that local farmers could easily transport their grain there to be milled. These communities were dependent on their local mill as bread was a staple part of the diet.
There is no need to enter the building nor put yourself into harm by crawling under the building; doing so most probably would be dangerous as well as illegal. While permission has been granted by the property owner to place this geocache it was with the stipulation that it be on the outside of the building.
