Geocache Description:

The location

Stuart Park is a scrub reserve in the suburb of Titahi Bay in Porirua. A lot of it is gorse but there is Ngaio, Mahoe and grasses.

This cache is just off an access road that cuts through the western end of the park. There are great views around here overlooking the South Island, Cook Strait and Titahi Bay itself. Come on a nice day if you can.

Getting there

The quickest way to get to this part of the reserve is to park in Moki Street at the top of the hill in Western Titahi Bay. A stop for the number 210 bus is nearby on Pikarere Street. Although you can drive through the gate and down to the treatment plant in daylight hours there is no point in driving through the gate to get to this cache because you'll be heading down a secondary access road which has a normally closed vehicle barrier, Pedestrians can access the area 24/7.

You could also park at the southern end of Titahi Bay beach and walk through the park and up the hill along the cliff route for a more spectacular walk.

The cache

The original plan was make this a "clever" cache but that got placed somewhere more suitable for it. So now this a "plain" cache. But it is at least an ammo can. There's no excuse for anything less than a regular size cache here and so it is.

The cache is a short distance off the road and it might not be all that obvious how to get to it because there will seem to be a wall of bush between GZ and the closest point on the road to it. Try going downhill from the cache a little way until you find a gap in the bush then you can more or less follow the GPS through the grass. The trails you will see in the grass are not geotrails as they pre-date placement of the cache.
