Riverpoint Park, Auburn

Welcome to Riverpoint Park.  Built in 2005, this 3.8 acre park is adjacent to the Green River.  The park features an open space play area, benches, and access to the Green River Trail.  It was name named for the surrounding neighborhood and was developed and dedicated in 2005.

A "Marvelous" Mystery

This geocache is not at the posted coordinates, but it might be a good place to park.  There are at least two different ways to locate the cache using the information provided on this page.  They involve using either "Decryption" or "Projection".

Perhaps you can think of other ways to get the location of the geocache. Good luck.

1. Vigenere Cipher (Decryption)

A 16th century French diplomat, Blaise de Vigenère, created a very simple cipher that is moderately difficult for any unintended parties to decipher.  The Vigenère cipher is a method of encrypting alphabetic text by using a series of interwoven Caesar ciphers, based on the letters of a keyword. It is a form of poly-alphabetic substitution.  You decode an encrypted message by using a key or passphrase.  The letters of your passphrase determine how each letter in the message is decrypted.

To solve this puzzle, you'll need to "Decrypt" your message (cipher text) using the correct "Passphrase".  Of course you'll have to figure out the passphrase, but that shouldn't be too hard.  The following information may help:

Passphrase:   9 characters (think about it...)
  Your message:   AnvAmgsNoa SzsItublEemzr
  Geocache:   N 47 20.??? W 122 12.???
  Helpful Site:   Vigenere Solver

2. Coordinate Projection

Given a starting coordinate, and the bearing and distance to the geocache, you can use coordinate projection to find this geocache.  This type of calculation can be performed  by many GPS receivers, but there are websites that will do the calculations for you.  The following information may help:

  Coordinates:   N 47 20.133 W 122 12.695
  Angle / bearing:   16 degrees
  Distance (in feet):   120
  Helpful Site:   Projection Solver

2019 is the first year of a formal GeoTour for the expanded geocaching adventure in the cities of Auburn, Kent, Renton & Maple Valley, Washington. Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation, auburntourism.com, visitkent, the Port of Seattle and the WSGA are stakeholders in this GeoTour. There are 10 caches placed in each city. The geocaches highlight some scenic outdoor area, park, trail, or general area of interest in these cities. We hope you enjoy visiting the area, learning about its natural beauty and interesting outdoor areas. You can visit the website for information about lodging discounts, restaurant, brewery and other discounts that are available while you are visiting our area, Valley Cities GeoTour.
